About the Soundtrack

The Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban original motion picture soundtrack was released on the 25th of May, 2004. The film's score was composed and conducted by John Williams. It introduced two major themes: "Window to the Past" and "Double Trouble", although neither were featured in the series' other films. Two other notable themes were used to represent the Time-Turner and Sirius Black's hunt for Harry. The soundtrack was performed at Abbey Road Studios in London, and charted at 68 on the Billboard 200 and also charted at three on the Top Soundtracks Chart.

The album was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score, the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media and the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Soundtrack. It was well received among film music critics, and Archie Watt of MovieCues highly praised the score, calling it "one of the best albums of 2004, and well worth a listen by any film music or John Williams fan."

The PoA soundtrack is actually the only one I personally own of the Harry Potter series. As soon as I saw the movie, I knew I would buy it. It was beautifully composed, and really set the tone for the entire film. It also marks the last movie that John Williams composed for the Harry Potter films.
