About Dan

Daniel Jonathan "Dan" Stevens (born 10th October 1982) is a British actor. He was born in Croydon, Greater London, England, and adopted at birth. He has a younger brother who was also adopted. Dan boarded at Tonbridge School, a public school in Kent, where he became interested in drama. Dan went on to read English Literature at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was first spotted by director Sir Peter Hall at a production of Macbeth in which he played the title character alongside Hall's daughter, Rebecca, who played Lady Macbeth.

Dan is probably most well-known for his portrayal of Matthew Crawley in period drama series Downton Abbey, but he has also had major roles in Sense & Sensibility (2008), Hilde (2009), the critically acclaimed The Line of Beauty (2006) and The Turn of the Screw (2009). His first TV appearance was in Kevin Connor's Frankenstein (2004). Dan is active in the theatre, with roles in As You Like It (2004), Much Ado About Nothing (2006) and The Vortex (2008) (and many more!).

More recently, Dan completed filming for the role of Gilbert Evans in Summer in February alongside Dominic Cooper and Emily Browning, as well as Vamps, an American comedy.

Dan is married to South African jazz vocalist-turned-singing teacher, Susie Hariet. They met in 2006, when appearing at different theatres in Sheffield, England. The couple have one child, a daughter named Willow, who was born in December 2009, and are currently expecting their second child.

I first saw Dan in Downton Abbey, and I was very much taken in by his amazing blue eyes *_* Apart from his looks however, I was quite impressed with his acting abilities and sought out another period drama he had starred in (Sense & Sensibility), and thought he was just as wonderful in that. I then bought the German-language film Hilde, which was a brilliant film and Dan spoke German in most of his role, which was amazing. Dan is very articulate in his interviews, and also rather cheeky and witty (hence the name of the fanlisting, 'charismatic'!). He seems like a lovely guy. He also has a fantastic voice, perfect for all the period dramas he seems to like starring in! I am looking forward to watching him in Summer in February, and if I can get my hands on other things he has starred in, then I shall gladly watch those too. :)
