About "Midnight"

0

"Midnight" is the tenth episode of the fourth series of Sci-fi TV show Doctor Who. It was first broadcast on BBC One on the 14th of June 2008. The episode placed much more emphasis on the role of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor than in the rest of the fourth series, with the Doctor's companion, Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) playing only a minimal role.

Plot Synopsis

The Doctor and Donna are taking a break from their adventures and spending a bit of time on the planet Midnight. While Donna opts to spend a bit of time in the spa at the resort, the Doctor goes off on an all-day bus tour to the Sapphire Waterfall. Part way through the four hour journey to get there, the vehicle stops for no apparent reason, and when noises are heard coming from outside the vehicle, panic begins to set in. One of the passengers, Sky (Lesley Sharp) is suddenly taken over by an unknown being which makes her copy the words of the voices around her, and soon the other passengers' paranoia and fear know no bounds and the focus of their solution is to eliminate the Doctor.

What I Like About It

This is one of few episodes written by Russell T Davies that I actually really enjoyed (I much prefer the writing of Steven Moffat [excluding Series 5 & 6]). I found it interesting that the focus was more on the Doctor and that Donna had very little screen-time. The episode was very suspenseful, and I found it quite creepy/scary that we didn't exactly know WHAT was possessing Sky, and we never found out in the end either!
